Alfred J Kwak revisited

In February last year we brought to your attention 'Alfred's Chess Adventure', the twelfth episode of the late eighties Dutch cartoon series Alfred J. Kwak. Back then, unfortunately, the only video available online was dubbed into Japanese. But I am delighted to say that some kind soul has recently uploaded to youtube a dozen episodes complete with Melvyn Hayes's inimitable English narration, the aforementioned chess adventure being one of them. For those not prepared to sit through all 23 minutes of the thing (though you really should, because Alfred is one of the most charming cartoons ever produced) the main chess action takes place between about 7:42 and 8:40 in the first video. If you missed out on our Kwak reportage last time round then you may be pleasantly surprised by how well young Alfred and his diminutive mole pal, Henk, know their theory...

I still can't work out whether Alfred plays the bishop or the pawn on his sixth move. Though why I should expect to do better than before, just because I now understand the dialogue, I can't imagine....
